Thornton, Darlene 1938-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Darlene Thornton, 86, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, at Mosaic Life Care. She was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Severance, Kansas.

Darlene married Thomas Thornton and together they raised three children. He later passed in 1992. Darlene devoted her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed working crossword and Sudoku puzzles and reading. She was a devoted member to Hillcrest Bible Church where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years and played the organ.

Darlene was preceded in death by mother, Goldie Huss; her husband, Thomas Thornton; son, Larry Thornton; brother, Warren Huss; sister, Judy Lard; grandson, Jason Thornton; and great-granddaughter, Maylee DeSpain.

Survivors include her children, Gay Monach, of St. Joseph, and Scott Thornton, of St. Joseph; brother, Roger (Carla) Huss, of Amazonia, Missouri; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday. Interment will follow at the Courter-Richey Cemetery, in Troy, Kansas. Memorials are requested to the Hillcrest Bible Church.
