Korte, Stephen C. 1954-2024 Phoenix, Ariz.

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Stephen Carl Korte passed away of natural causes on Oct. 18, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 70.

Stephen, affectionately known as “Steve” and “Uncle Steve”, was born on May 7, 1954, to Richard and Marilyn (Moser) Korte. He was a graduate of Truman State University and went on to enjoy a career in sales. Discovering an incredible talent for running after graduating from college, Steve went on to become an outstanding middle-distance runner, with aspirations to run in the Olympics. Though he never achieved that goal, he continued to run for the joy of it until the day he died, sharing his love of running with his family, friends, nieces, and nephews.

Steve dearly loved his family and genuinely cared about people, making friends wherever he went. He was always hopeful, had a wonderful sense of humor, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother, Ralph Korte.

He is survived by siblings, Michael Korte (Rose), of St. Joseph, Fr. William Korte, of Dixon, Missouri, Virginia Watson (John), of Steelville, Missouri, Cathy Buncher (Mark), of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Walter Korte, of Steelville, Casilda Kekeisen (Joe), of Sullivan, Missouri; as well as dozens of nieces and nephews, and great- nieces and nephews.

Steve was laid to rest in the family cemetery, St. Michael Cemetery, in Steelville. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
