BOONVILLE, Mo. – William Henry “Bill” Jones passed away at Riverdell Care Center in Boonville, Missouri, on Nov. 26, 2024, with his sister, Ruth Ann Jones and niece, Tracy L. Jones at his bedside.
William Henry was born Nov. 27, 1940, in Fayette, Missouri, to Henry and Nora (Bush) Jones. He graduated from Fayette High School in 1958. William Henry joined the U.S. Navy in 1958. During his military service he was a Medic and was honorably discharged in 1962. In 1966 William Henry married Fay Green and they had one son, William Scott Jones.
William Henry was employed at St Joseph Psychiatric Hospital. On Feb. 2, 1970, he was hired as a corrections officer at Leavenworth Federal Prison, was promoted several times throughout his career and retired Sept. 30, 1990, as a Senior Officer Specialist. William Henry also received many awards and commendations during his employment at Leavenworth Federal Prison. After retirement he was employed at the Kansas City International Airport.
Those left to mourn his passing include: step- daughters, Vivian Green, and Linda Green, both of Kansas, City, Missouri; sisters, Nancy Jones and husband, Donald, of Fayette, and Ruth Ann Jones, of Columbia, Missouri; nephews, William Jones, of Boonville, Donald Jones, of Moberly, Missouri; niece, Tracy L. Jones, of Columbia; long-time special friends, Sandra King, Kevin King, Chave’ May; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins
Preceding William Henry in death were his parents; his wife; his son; sister, Betty Lou Jones; nephew, Chief Petty Officer Robert James Jones Sr; great-nephew, Aaron Wayne Jones; several aunts and uncles.
Graveside funeral services and interment 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at the Mt. Washington Cemetery, Plattsburg, Missouri. Pastor Charles East officiating, under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home.
