KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Walter Jones, 79, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2024.

Walter Thomas Jones Jr. was born on March 30, 1945, to Walter and Ruth (Snyder) Jones, in Creston, Iowa. On June 3, 1972, he married Mary Ann Scanlan, who survives of the home.

Walter’s life was defined by service, learning, and dedication. After serving honorably in the United States Navy, he pursued a master’s degree in industrial arts from Northwest Missouri State University, laying the foundation for a fulfilling career.

He shared his passion and expertise as a college professor, inspiring students at Northwest Missouri State University, Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, and Missouri Western State College. Later, he transitioned to the corporate world as an engineer for St. Joseph Light & Power Company and Western Telecommunications Inc., where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2012.

Beyond his professional life, Walter was deeply involved in his community. He was a proud Model A enthusiast, often found with his local club, and he embodied a spirit of service through the Lions Club of St. Joseph, the Ham Radio Club, and Boy Scouts Troop 216, where he mentored and guided boys on their paths to adulthood.

Walter’s family was his greatest joy. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Jones; his son, Allen Thomas Jones (Maya), of Brussels, Belgium; and his cherished grandchildren, Charles Thomas and Emma Rose Jones. He also leaves behind his sister, Shery Chamberlain, of Malvern, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen McNerney.

Farewell Services 1 p.m. Tuesday, Parklawn Northland Chapel, 1640 Route 291, Liberty, MO 64068. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, 5001 NE Cookingham Dr, Kansas City, MO 64156. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
