Billie S. Sollars, 90, St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024. She was born Oct. 13, 1934, to Homer E. and Vivian V. (Smith) Winemiller, in Barnard, Missouri.
Billie married Marvin A. Sollars on July 17, 1955. After two years of nursing training, she left in lieu of marriage. She held various other jobs and was a foster parent alongside parenting her five children. She returned to school to attain her bachelor’s degree in social work. Her compassionate spirit led her to continue to advocate for foster children through the Division of Family Services and ultimately flourished as an adoption specialist, touching the lives with her warmth and dedication.
A pillar of strength and faith, Billie was involved in the Woodson Chapel Christian Church, where she guided many through her leadership in bible study. Her commitment to her faith extended into the broader community as she was a leader in the Faith in Action meetings at the North Town Community Center. Billie also found joy in frequenting garage sales.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Marvin Sollars; children, Dana Rene Sollars, Gregory Sollars and Shawn Sollars; and brother, Jon Winemiller.
Survivors include her children, Susan Sollars, Darrin Sollars (Amanda) and Saresa Shepherd (Robert); 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Service 2 p.m. Monday, Simplify Cremations & Funerals. Inurnment Mount Mora Cemetery. Visitation 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Simplify Cremations & Funerals. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Woodson Chapel Christian Church.
