Marguerite A. (Ruhnke) Swartz, 97, St. Joseph, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at Mosaic Life Care. She was born in Wathena, Kansas, on March 5, 1927, to Dora and Paul Ruhnke Sr., who preceded her in death. Marguerite graduated from Atchison High School, in Atchison, Kansas. She worked at Chase Candy Company prior to working for 43 years at American Electric Company.

She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she served as an officer in the Ruth Circle, Mary & Martha Circle, Lutheran Women’s Guild and Altar Guild.

Marguerite married Perry “Benny” Swartz on May 28, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1976. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Carmelita Sinclair and Alice Brown; and a brother, Paul Ruhnke Jr.

She is survived by a sister, Carol McKittrick, of Topeka, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; great- nieces and nephews; and great-grand-nieces and nephews; as well as a special great-niece and nephew, Connie and Donnie Whitsell, of Easton, Missouri, who did so much for her.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 2 p.m. Saturday, St. Paul Lutheran. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran or donor’s choice.
