Melvin Paul Sale, age 94, went to his heavenly home Nov. 1, 2024.
He was born in St. Joseph. Melvin graduated from Central High School.
He was a proud Navy Veteran, receiving several merits over his enlistment. Melvin was a typesetter printer for the St. Joseph News-Press and Gazette for 40 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Melvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, playing guitar and spending time with his family.
In his younger years he enjoyed art by sketching animals. He attended Claire United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents and nine siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Merelyn; daughters, Mary Kay DeShon (Rex), Linda Kafka (Vince); son, Gary Sale (Jenny); along with eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, from 11 a.m. to noon at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Private family graveside services with full military honors will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Freudenthal Home Hospice, especially, nurse Kathy, for their loving care and support during his final days.
Memorials may be mailed to Mary DeShon, 2400 Forest Ave., Kansas City, MO 64108 and will be donated in his honor to Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City, Missouri. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
