Florence F. McClanahan, 77, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, in Lexington, South Carolina. She was born May 8, 1947, in St. Joseph, daughter of the late Florabell and John Bethel. She graduated from Benton High School, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Maryland in Ramstein Germany, her Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from Saint Leo University Sumter, South Carolina.

She married David “Mark” McClanahan on Dec. 1, 1967, and he passed away on Feb. 25, 2015. She worked for the Social Security Administration as a case manager in Kansas City, and retired after 20 years of service. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, and she was a member of the Faucett Christian Church.

Florence was preceded in death by husband, Mark McClanahan; her parents; daughter, Tamra Trahan; grandchild, Liam Coleman; siblings: Charles Bethel, Erma McIntosh, and Helen Sisk.

Survivors include: her sister, Fannie Bottorff; followed by son, David and wife Lisa McClanahan, of West Columbia, South Carolina; daughter, Shenna Coleman, of Liberty, Missouri; grandchildren, Shelby, Clayton, Damien, Darian “Andy,” Cameron, and Masyn.

Graveside funeral services and interment will be conducted on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, David Mejia officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Rupp Funeral Home. Donations in honor of Florence can be made to Alzheimer’s research, Salvation Army of St. Joe, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
