Shawnetta Rice 39, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, in St. Joseph. She was born Oct. 23, 1984, in Topeka, Kansas, daughter of Sue Warren and Samuel Hutchinson. She graduated from Lees Summit North High School in 2003.

Shawnetta was very spiritual, loved being outdoors, spending time with her dogs, and most of all being a mom.

Shawnetta was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Hutchinson.

Survivors include: her mother, Sue Warren, of Columbia, Missouri; husband, Christopher Rice, of the home; sons, Calvin Lee Layden III, Clayton Layden, Sebastian Rice, Sylus Rice, and Slade Rice; daughters, Mackenzie Rice and Mckayla Clark; sisters, Chelsey (Deante Matthews) Murphy, of Kansas City, Missouri, Mahalie (Jeff Gustafson) Murphy, of Wichita, Kansas, and Larissa (Josh) Westbrook, of Columbia; brothers, Kodiak Hutchinson and Samuel Hutchinson Jr.; mother and father-in-law, Tammy and Thaddeus Rice; sisters-in-law, Lena Rice and Tamara (Lakota) Johnson; brothers-in-law, TJ (Kahlie) Rice and Jourdan Pompa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Rice will be cremated following services. Memorials are requested to the Shawnetta Rice Memorial Fund in Care of Rupp Funeral Home.
