William “Wayne” Hoover, 86, St. Joseph, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2024.
He was born Oct. 14, 1937, to the late Wesley W. Hoover and Nina A. (Cox) Smith, in Princeton, Missouri. He resided there until 1946, when he moved to Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from East High School in 1955.
He was blessed with three children from a previous marriage, Robert, Marilyn, and Denna.
Wayne, as everybody called him, married Shirley Ann Cook on June 27, 1969. They enjoyed 55 years together.
He worked as a carpet layer. He and Shirley had a home remodeling business. In 1977, he went to work at TWA as a truck driver. He retired from that in 2001 and had his own truck and loader to haul gravel around the Kearney, Holt area. But first and foremost, Wayne was a country music singer. He entertained fans in Cameron, Missouri, where they had a Friday night show. They also rented it out for special occasions. He also played at Joyce Rae Patterson Senior Center on Saturday nights.
Wayne resided at Country Squire Independent Living in St. Joseph, Missouri for 2 1/2 years.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; brother, Jerry Hoover; sister, Janet; three children; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
