It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judy Ann “Nanie” Hill, on Sept. 21, 2024. Judy, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend will be remembered for her genuine warmth, endless compassion, unwavering strength and faith in God that touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Judy was born in Rushville, Missouri, on Aug. 16, 1942, to St. Joseph Police Captain, Harold K. Brown and her devoted mother, Rosalie (Spinner) Chapman. Judy graduated from Central High School and married Donald “Don” Hill on Dec. 11, 1959. Don, lovingly known as “Bobo” to his grandchildren, preceded her in death in 1994.

Known for her incredible ability to bring people together with her kindness, open heart, and gentle approach, Judy was adored by all who knew her. Whether she was hosting family gatherings or offering a listening ear to someone in need, Judy had a gift for making others feel valued and loved.

Judy’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her children, Lori, Darren, Sharman, and Eric, were the center of her world. As a grandmother and great- grandmother, her love knew no bounds. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and life lessons.

Throughout her life, Judy was a woman of resilience and grace, facing challenges with dignity and strength. Judy’s deepest passion was watching her children, and then her children’s children, build beautiful lives. Judy loved contributing her time and treasure to those less fortunate. Never a harsh word or judgmental thought, Judy’s legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.

Judy is survived by her four children, Lori Lowrance (Nick), of Kansas City, Kansas, Darren Hill (Myste), of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Sharman Smith (Kevin), of Bradenton, Florida, and Eric Hill (Stacey), of St. Joseph; 19 grandchildren: Justin (Sarah), Drew (Tori), Josh (Mallory), Ally (Jordan), Kelsey (Tom), Corey (Aubree), Taylor, Zach (Alicea), Jordan (Lucy), Nicolas (Tiffanie), Austin (Katie), Sheldon, Grant (Anna), Emily (Cole), Dawson (Teagen), Payton, Jaxson, Graham, Max; and 18 great-grandchildren: Hudson and Scarlett (Drew and Tori), Kenton, Henry and Miller (Ally and Jordan), Leo and Emma (Josh and Mallory), Colton and Archer (Kelsey and Tom), Ellis (Corey and Aubree), Liam and Bennet (Zach and Alicea), Brooks (Jordan and Lucy), Oliver and Ezra (Nicolas and Tiffanie), Bowen, Bexly and Lilly (Austin and Katie). Also surviving Judy is her sister, Linda Hazlip, Edmond, Oklahoma; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as many neighbors and friends who were like family to her.

Judy is preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Don Hill, who passed away in 1994. In 2000, Judy married Mike “Rug” Moran who passed away in 2008. Judy’s parents, and her brother, Roger Brown, also preceded her in death.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, no longer in pain, and reunited with her loved ones who departed before her. Her memory will continue to inspire love, kindness, and strength in all who knew her.

Judy’s care has been entrusted to Heaton-Bowman-Smith Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 27, 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, at 11 a.m. Graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association or the ALS Foundation in Judy’s honor.

Rest in peace, Judy Hill. We love you and will deeply miss you.

A Mother’s love knows no bounds, no distance, no time.
