James “Bill” F. Stewart, 75, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, at his home. He was born Nov. 18, 1948, in Wallace, Missouri; son of Jane and Wentlo Stewart. He attended Benton High School. Bill married Karen Leach on July 3, 1979, in St. Joseph. He served in the Army and is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a long time truck driver working many years primarily at Barlow Truck Lines and owned/operated his own truck for several years. He enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his animals and his time at home. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by mother, Jane Stewart-Nell; father, Wentlo Stewart; step-daughter, Lori Ellis; and brother, Thomas Stewart.

Survivors include wife, Karen Sue Stewart, of the home; children, James “Jimmy” Stewart Jr. and Christina (Terry) Jennings, all of Iowa; sister, Ina (Steve) Cox, of St. Joseph; brother, John (Jackie) Stewart, of Fillmore, Missouri; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at the Rupp Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Entombment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Tradition’s Hospice and their care team for the care they provided.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials to be made to the donors choice.
