ABILENE, Kan. – On Aug. 6, 2024, our beautiful, tenacious, one of a kind mom, Sheryl Helen Gruen (Jones), 78, left us for Heaven. She was born on Sept. 6, 1945, to W. Scott and Helen Eshnaur, in Kansas City, Missouri. Sherry spent her childhood in West Palm Beach, Florida.
In 1970 she married Roy Jones and together they raised Jim, Mark and Charlie on a farm in Savannah, Missouri. Roy passed away in 2001.
Sherry was a talented seamstress and joined the family manufacturing business at a young age. She owned and operated W. Scott and Company for 50 years. In a male dominated industry, she was a formidable and successful female business owner.
Later in life Sherry married T. Lee Gruen from Abilene, Kansas. Together they traveled for over a decade as she fulfilled several of her bucket list adventures such as zip lining through the jungle, riding horses on a beach, and putting her toes in the Arctic Ocean.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Joyce Mellies and John Eshnaur; her husband, T. Lee; and her beloved greyhound, Finnick.
She is survived by her sister, Dona Rake; sons, Jim (Karen) Fox, Mark (Kelleye) Fox and Charlie Fox; grandchildren, Ashley, Kyler (Mindy), Landinn, Brandon and Max; along with great- grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Eva, Ella, Rhett, Richard, Cora and Easton; numerous nieces and nephews; and loved one Stacey Reece.
Mom knew how to live life to the fullest. Teaching us all that it’s ok to eat dessert first. She loved, worked, prayed and laughed passionately.
We remember how much she meant to us today with tears, one day with smiles, and always with love.
Her boys will be forever grateful to those in Abilene and beyond that befriended and loved her. A special thanks to those who comforted her these last several months.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 14, 2024, at Community Bible Church, in Abilene.
In lieu of gifts or flowers please plant a tree. Sherry was a self-proclaimed tree hugger. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
