GLENDALE, Mo. – William “Bill” A. Carpenter was Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passing away at his home at the age of 83 on July 18, 2024.
Bill was born on Jan. 21, 1941, to James and Alice Carpenter on a farm in Mendon, Missouri. He was a proud graduate of the University of Missouri in 1964. He also served as a Military Police Officer in the Missouri National Guard.
He began his banking career with the FDIC before becoming Executive Vice President of Meramec Valley Bank in Valley Park. He later spent 25 years at Commerce Bank before concluding his career as President of Nodaway Valley Bank, in St. Joseph.
A pillar in the St. Joseph community, Bill was revered as a lifelong banker whose integrity and commitment were unmatched. His contributions extended beyond banking; he served with distinction on the Missouri Western State University Board of Regents, was a stalwart member of the Missouri Bankers Foundation 50+ Year Club and held esteemed positions including Chairman of the Missouri State Chamber of Commerce & Industry, President of St. Joseph United Way, President of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce, and dedicated Board Member of the Pony Express Museum.
Bill’s passion for service was recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious William Booth Award, honoring his unwavering dedication to the Salvation Army.
Throughout his life, Bill Carpenter epitomized generosity, leadership, and kindness. He genuinely valued the relationships he formed with every customer. His memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him, as he leaves behind a profound legacy of compassion and service.
While his professional accomplishments were many, Bill found his great joy being a devoted husband, father, and “Bop Bop” to his 13 grandchildren.
Bill will be profoundly missed by his wife, Priscilla “Sally” Carpenter, of 57 years; a devoted father to William Jr. (Britnee) and their children Drew, Kayla, William, and Colette; Alicia Albus (Tom) and their children, Charlie, Bill, Mary, and John; Aaryn Greer (Craig) and their children Edie, Samuel, and Anne; and Adam (Loren) and their children Madeline and Caroline. He was also a loyal brother to James, Elizabeth, and Mary Alice.
Visitation will take place Monday, Aug. 5, at 9:30 a.m. at Mary Queen of Peace at 676 Lockwood Ave, St. Louis, MO 63119, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 am. www.boppchapel.com. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
