Edward “Ed” Morehouse, 85, St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

He was born on Oct. 24, 1938, to Lewis and Lila (Farquhar) Morehouse, in Shambaugh, Iowa (Page County). At the age of three he moved with his family east of Hopkins, Missouri, to a farm where he grew to manhood. He attended Maple Grove through the eighth grade, which was a one-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Hopkins High School with the class of 1957.

On June 5, 1970, Ed married Jessie Lou Lear. They were married for 54 wonderful years. They lived in Amazonia, Missouri, until 1983 when they moved to St. Joseph.

He was a blue-collar man who worked for different companies such as Schreiber Mills, Krause Milling and the St. Joseph School District, retiring in 2000.

Ed enjoyed spending time with his family and supported them in any way possible. He cared deeply for his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Delora Pruitt, Darlene Weaver, Della Swaney and Maggie Fuller; and step-children, Dawnita Stanghoner and Charles Cox.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Jessie Morehouse; adopted granddaughter, Shannan Morehouse, who he raised as his own; grandchildren, Ricardo Casem, Bentley Casem and Chelsie Conners; great-grandchildren, Orbus and Oliver Conners; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Cremation under the direction of Simplify Cremations & Funerals. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 13, at 6 p.m. at Green Valley Baptist Church, St. Joseph. The family will receive friends prior to the celebration, beginning at 5 p.m. At a later date, per Ed’s final wishes, his cremains will be spread at the Morehouse Family Cemetery, in Hopkins.
