Doris Nadine Stephens, age 90, of St. Joseph, passed away May 14, 2024, at a local nursing home. Doris was born April 29, 1934, to Clyde Henderson Swift and Lenora Mae Workman Swift at the family home in King City, Missouri. Doris graduated from King City High School in 1942. Doris and Jack W. Stephens were married on Jan. 21, 1956, at the First Christian Church, in St. Joseph. Doris had worked at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She was a long-time member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents; sister, Francis, and husband, John Powell; sister-in-law, Betty Swift; sister-in-law, Monta Stephens Welch, and husband, Marshall Welch; niece, Peggy Welch; and nephew, Curtis Welch.
Doris is survived by brother, Ken Swift; nephews, Jeff Swift, Douglas Swift, Mark Swift, and Stephen Welch; and friends, Greg and Helen Carrel, and Janice Albright.
Graveside services by Meierhoffer Funeral Home and Crematory will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. with inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery for Jack and Doris following military honors for Jack. In lieu of flowers memorials may be to the Wyatt Park Baptist Church or the Noyes Home for Children in care of the funeral home. The procession will leave from Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
