Larry Joe Herring, 73, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024, in a St. Joseph hospital. He was born Aug. 30, 1950, in St. Joseph, son of the late Goldie and Joe Herring. He married Shirley Melton on Nov. 4, 2017, and she survives of the home. He graduated from DeKalb High School, class of 1968, and worked in construction at the Swift Adhesive and Coating and HPI. He enjoyed boating on the river, four wheeling, visiting with his friends at the river, and played the drums in several local bands.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Herring; sisters, Rosie Bryson and Betty Wells; and granddaughter, Lauren Pauly.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Herring, of the home; daughter, Tori Smith (Bill Stout), Salina, Kansas; sons, David (Suzie) Herring and Scott Herring, both of Kansas City, Missouri; daughters, Lyndsay (Shon) Bennett and Harli Melton, both of St. Joseph; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and river buddies.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home with a celebration of life starting at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor Andy Campbell officiating. Friends are invited to the St. Joe Boat and Yacht following the services.
