William “Bill” R. Zeltwanger, 91, St. Joseph, passed away May 8, 2024. Born on Feb. 5, 1933, in Troy, Kansas, to Albert “A.J.” and Ruby (Lloyd) Zeltwanger.

He shared a resounding love with his wife, Nola A. Gilliland, since their marriage on Oct. 29, 1960. Their love continued to grow through their children, Kimberly Campbell (Barry) and Shawn Zeltwanger (Lisa), and grandchildren, Billy Campbell and Zachary Zeltwanger. Bill is also survived by his sisters, Luella, Shirley, and Darlene, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ed, Elaine, Art, Norma, Ernie, and Helen.

Bill served his country with distinction in the United States Navy aboard a minesweeper during the Korean War, earning a National Defense Service Medal for his service. Following his military tenure, he channeled his creative talents into Zelt’s, a hair salon in St. Joseph, where he emerged as a multiple award-winning hairstylist. Bill’s passion extended into his personal life through his dedication to running, participating in multiple 5K events and expressing himself through poetry and illustration.

Bill will be remembered as a man of many talents, a beloved husband, a nurturing father, a charming poet, and an artist whose keen humor and zest for life touched and enhanced the lives of all who knew him.

Farewell Services 11 a.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church.
