GOWER, Mo. – David L. Bishop, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Gower, Missouri, on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

David was born in Maryville, Missouri, on Sept. 1, 1956, to George and Ruth Bishop. He graduated from Stewartsville, Missouri, High School in 1974. Upon graduation he ventured along many different paths, including working at the hospital as a phlebotomist and opening his own business, before finding his calling as an educator.

In fall of 1978 he married Mary McPhee and they made Easton, Missouri, home. In 1980 they opened Spring Crest Custom Draperies, in St. Joseph. The business operated for seven years, before closing so that David could return to college at Missouri Western. He graduated in 1981 with a degree in science and a minor in education.

Upon graduation, David accepted a high school teaching position at Westport High School, in the Kansas City, Missouri, School District. He continued his science teaching career at Cameron High School, in Cameron, Missouri, for the remainder of his career. David loved all aspects of teaching science, and you could find him supporting all activities from Junior Class Sponsor to working football games. He was always proud to talk about his students who went on to become doctors, nurses, teachers, etc. He retired from Cameron after 22 years in May 2015.

In 2012 David took over the family farm, in Stewartsville. He found great joy in farming and continued up to his death. When he wasn’t farming, you would most likely find him in antique stores, showing off his classic cars at local car shows, or attending classic rock concerts with friends.

Nothing mattered more to David than his friends and family, including his two daughters, Nicky (Scott) Moore, of Miami, Florida, and Katie (Adam Kominko) Bishop, of Kansas City.

David was preceded in death by his father, George L. Bishop (2020); two brothers, Tony (1982) and Bruce Bishop (1998).

He is survived by his daughters, Nicky Moore and Katie Bishop; mother, Ruth Bishop, Stewartsville; sister, Peggy Brune, Lincoln, Nebrasla; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will host a visitation on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Turner Family Funeral Home, in Stewartsville, from 3 to 5 p.m. A private family burial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in David Bishop’s name to the Science Department at Cameron R-1 School District.
