Gary Whitten, 79, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024, at his home. He was born July 12, 1944, in St. Joseph, son of Dorothy (Chambers) and Edgar Whitten. He attended Lafayette High School. Gary married Rosemary Steele on June 5, 1964, in St. Joseph. He was a painter for Griener Brothers. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.

Gary was preceded in death by parents; brother, Donald Whitten; sister and brother-in-law, Lawana and Bill Greiner; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Ralph Burks; and brother-in-law, Ralph Taylor.

Survivors include wife of almost 60 years, Rosemary Whitten, of the home; brothers, Raymond Whitten and Edgar Whitten, of St. Joseph; sister, Constance Taylor, of Blair, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Ronald Steele Sr., Frank Steele and Frank Harris; and 48 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Whitten has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
