Daniel Joseph “Charlie” Pompa Jr., 52, St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024.
He was born Feb. 26, 1972, in Los Angeles, California, to Daniel J. Pompa Sr. and Billie Pauline (Walden) Pompa. His family moved to St. Joseph when Pompa was five years old, where he later excelled in track at Benton High School.
Pompa liked working with his hands, taking his talent to Ventura Foods, Johnson Controls, Wheeler Construction, and then Vedco.
He loved to shoot pool at Bill’s Pub, play darts and Pitch, dancing, and hanging out at “Neighbors” (Joe Melton’s garage).
Pompa was full of life. He was a positive, proud South-Sider and Raiders fan who lived in the moment and encouraged others to follow his example.
He was a family man, a man of God, and a Mama’s Boy. His kids and grandkids meant everything to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Julie Pompa; former wife, Laneese Hale; and best friend, Jason King.
Survivors include son, Steven Hale, and the mother of his children, Joyce Fanning; son, Payton Hale; grandchildren, Jayven, Jasiah and Jezney Hale; siblings, Angel Pompa (Ron Becerra) and Adeña Pompa; nieces and nephews, Curtisea Weston-Pompa (Demetre Tolbert), Sephra Pompa (Tyler Young), Rah-Vin Blanchard (Cody Pettijohn), Jourdan Pompa, Kobie Pompa (Derrick Babineaux), LeCee Bricker (Clay), and David Johnson (Kara); stepfather, Sidney Hawkins; uncle, Rudy Pompa; and other extended family members in California.
Pompa’s last words would be, “SOUTH SIDE HOODY WHOT!”
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will gather with friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. The family asks that attendees wear a hat in Pompa’s honor.
