John Henry Hayse, 85, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024. He was born Oct. 25, 1938, to John Edward and Minnie (Nabower) Hayse, in Grand Island, Nebraska, and grew up on the family farm in Wood River, Nebraska.
John had a great sense of humor and loved life, making the most of every day. Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed fishing, traveling, snow skiing, and playing cards with family. He was an avid sports fan who never missed a Cornhuskers or Chiefs game.
He was a man of many skills and worked in various trades including carpentry and construction.
He made long lasting friendships and enjoyed daily walks with his friend, Ivan.
Survivors include Monica Tilley, his companion of 25 years; and his children, John Scott Hayse, of Denver, Colorado, Cristy (Jeff) Lockwood, of Knoxville, Tennessee, Kim (Gary) Burgess, of St. Joseph, Eric Schlundt-Bodien, of Casper, Wyoming, Meredith (Jeremy) Colson, of Savannah, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Reinhardt, of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Norma Derr.
