Wayne Leroy Headrick Sr., 87, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, at his home. He was born March 13, 1937, in Johnson City, Tennessee, son of Mary and David Headrick. He graduated from County High School in 1956. On Nov. 12, 1958, he married Anita Lewis in Alameda, California.
Wayne retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, where he served over 20 years as a Hospital Corpsman and proud Veteran. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and was active with Boy Scouts, where he served as Commissioner and a Chaplain. He was also a member of Fleet Reserve Force, VFW and served on the Volunteer Fire Department in Batesville, Tennessee. Wayne moved to St. Joseph, where he spent last 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Headrick and Mary Magdalene Haley; a daughter, Dianna Headrick; and siblings, Betty Townsend, Donald Headrick, Mary Headrick, and Ann Henry.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Anita Headrick, of St Joseph; children, Sharon Headrick, of Independence, Missouri, Patricia Feather, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Wayne (Jeanna) Headrick Jr., of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Jonathan Dinwiddie, Kenneth Jarred, Kayla Jarred, and Paul Headrick; and great-grandson, Aiden Jarred.
Graveside Service and Interment with Military Honors will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, in Leavenworth, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Rupp Funeral Home.
