CAMERON, Mo. – Debera Sue (Ross) Cochenour, 76, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2024. She was born Oct. 22, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Clell and Jessie Lee (Swan) Ross.
Debbie was a graduate of Hale High School. She worked for Hallmark Cards for 13 years and then worked in the banking industry for many years until retiring.
She was a member of the American Legion Post # 140, a former board member of the Hamilton Federated Church where she also coordinated Vacation Bible School for many years, and a proud Ambassador of the Cameron Regional Medical Center.
Debbie was an avid sports fan! She NEVER missed a Chiefs or Royal game! She coached her girls’ softball and basketball teams for many years. She received tremendous joy following any activity that her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren were involved in. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and she treasured them more than anything in the world.
She married James Hadley Cochenour in Hale, Missouri, on June 6, 1965. He preceded her in death along with her parents; brothers, Leroy, Donald, and Glenn; and sister, Sandra Copple.
Survivors: daughters, Kris (Mike) Smith, and Dawn (Roy) Estes, both of Cameron, Missouri; grandchildren, Tanner (Alli) Smith, Toby Smith and fiancee, Meghan Beam, Kelsey (Tommy) Fish, Carolyn Estes, and Tyler Estes; great-grandchildren, Cohen and Calaway Smith, and Cambry Fish.
Visitation: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, March 12, 2024, at Poland-Thompson Chapel.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 13. The First Christian Church, Cameron.
Burial: 2 p.m. Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri.
Memorial Fund: First Christian Church and/or Comfort Care Hospice.
