David Louis Hees, 53, from St. Joseph, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1970, in St. Joseph, to Frank and Vicki Hotaling Hees.

David graduated from Central High School where he was well regarded and served as the football mascot. This led to a lifelong interest in sports. Also as growing up he enjoyed frequent camping trips with his parents.

David’s father passed away in 1984 of Lou Gehrig disease. Several years after high school, David moved to Hannibal, Missouri, where he and his mother enjoyed many visits with cousins as well as family reunions with extended family. These were highlights for David.

His maternal grandmother died at an early age and her sister, Beryl Cawood, served as a substitute grandmother to him.

David’s paternal grandfather, Louie Hees, was also attentive to his needs. His maternal and paternal grandparents as well as his parents died before him.

Survivors include Doris Guy, in Sherwood Arkansas, Harry Cawood (Dee), in Mesa, Arizona, and Phyllis Reesman, in Boonville, Missouri, as well as their children.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1 p.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
