Doris June Taysen, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away on Jan. 26, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on July 12, 1930, in Nodaway, Missouri, she was the daughter of Eden Callen and Vernelle (Donaldson) Lewis, who preceded her in death, as did her brothers, Wilbur and Wyman Callen; and her devoted husband, James F. Taysen.

Doris’s life was marked by love, artistry, and unwavering dedication to her family. Her first marriage with Arthur Keener, with whom she welcomed her son, Mike Keener (Camille). In her early years, Doris’s education took place in the one-room Callen School, a meaningful institution as her own grandfather had donated the land for it. Doris’s path led her to become a psychiatric aid at the state hospital, where she worked diligently for 30 years before retiring, touching many lives with her caring nature and kindness.

Her creativity shone brightly through her hobbies which included sewing, crocheting, and embroidering. Doris was an incredibly talented crafter whose works were the highlight of local craft shows, especially her well-known scrubbies.
