Jack H. Brown, 75, St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024.

He was born April 7, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Kenneth and Marie (Grimes) Brown.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Missouri Western State University, and his master’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Webster University.

Jack married Jill “Penny” Grimes on May 7, 1977. She survives of the home.

Jack was an avid cheerleader for the Fire Department, and wanted to be a firefighter since he was four years old. He worked for the St. Joseph Fire Department for 38 years, serving as a firefighter, battalion chief and then fire chief for five years. He was a member of the IAFF Local 77.

Jack played both baseball and softball in his younger years and was an avid midget race car fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church.

Jack loved his family and loved people.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jill; children, Brian Brown (Jennifer), of St. Joseph, Shelli Mason, of Overland Park, Kansas, Shona Kirkwood (Craig), of Turney, Missouri, and Laura Lake, of Overland Park; 10 grandchildren, Paige Mason, Morgan Mason, Jordan Mason, Tyler Brown, Bryson Brown, Kodi Kirkwood, Kasi Kirkwood, Kayli Kirkwood, Kadin Kirkwood, and Taylor Schneider; five great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Marie Frondle, of Cedar Rapids; three nieces; and one nephew; and several cousins.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10 a.m. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will gather with friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of the donor’s choice.
