Belen F. Mejia, 94, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at St. Joseph Senior Living, in St. Joseph. She was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Amarillo, Texas, daughter of Antonia and Carmen Jaramillo.

Belen began worked at Noma Lites for 15 years and H.D. Lee 1967 for 20 years from which she retired. Her hobbies included playing Bingo, Rummy and slot machines and also enjoyed knitting. Her later years she found joy watching her TV shows, especially Jeapordy, Pro Tennis and Patrick Mahomes. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Women’s Auxiliary Military Order of the Cootie of the VFW.

Belen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Candy and Nick Carillo and Mike and Pascual Jaramillo; sisters, Sally (Jaramillo) Kuschel and Maria (Castanada) Stone.

Survivors include daughter, Terresa (Jose) Rodriguez, of Kansas City, Missouri; son, Joseph Mejia (Michelle Spotts), of St. Joseph; brother, John Castanda, of St. Joseph; ex-husband, Rodolfo “Rudy” Mejia; grandchildren, Ashlee (Mark) Hendrix, Christian Mejia, Elijah Mejia, Carolina Rodriguez, Eliane Fuller-Rodriguez (Jackson Fuller); great-granddaughters, Zoey and Isabella Hendrix and Mia Fuller.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Fr. Stephen Hansen Celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Rupp Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Memorials are requested to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church or Aseracare Hospice.
