Susan “Sue” Kay Clark, 76, St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, after a brief illness.
Sue was born on Oct. 10, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to William and Doris (Lastuvka) Turner.
Her family moved to Seattle, Washington, when she was a child. She met the love of her life, Jim Clark, after a Beatles concert in Seattle while he was in the Navy. They moved to St. Joseph after they married on Oct. 15, 1966. They were married for 45 years at the time of Jim’s passing on Dec. 25, 2011.
Sue was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She sang in the choir for many years, including a trip to Rome. She also worked for St. Francis Xavier School as a cook and librarian while her children attended the school.
She loved her family, genealogy, her time as the secretary for the Sacred Hills encampment, taking pictures of her family and friends, attending country concerts, decorating for the holidays, and taking her dog, Prince, for car rides. She never met a stranger. She enjoyed meeting people and getting to know them. Many people would comment on how sweet she was.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; parents; grandparents; aunt and uncles.
She will lovingly be remembered and missed by her sister, Sheri (Randy) Bussey; her daughters, Theresa (Bill) Nester, Julie Clark (Dean Westman), Maureen Clark; son, Mike Clark (Casandra Richardson); grandchildren, Billy (Sarah) Nester, Michael Clark Jr., Chloe Clark, Ashlee Nester, Evelyn Clark, Graysen Richardson; great-grandchildren, Oliver Nester and Raelynn Nester; aunt, Henrietta Lastuvka; longtime friend, Eileen Perfrement; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, and her dog, Prince.
Mass of Christian Burial and Public Livestream 1 p.m. Monday, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Parish Rosary 4 p.m. Sunday, where the family will gather with friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital, American Cancer Society or St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
