ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) ā€” Students, faculty, staff and alumniĀ from Missouri Western took part in "The Big Event" on Wednesday.

The event allows members of the Griffon community a way to show their pride and spirit by gathering litter around the campus. It's just one way that people can show support for Missouri Western and St. Joseph.

"It's really important to show out and support your community," Missouri Western Admissions Assistant Benton Bally said. "You can definitely do that through volunteering with any of the organizations or ultimately getting out here and cleaning up trash."

The event dates back to 1982, with Texas A&M being the school to kickoff ā€œThe Big Eventā€. It has since evolved into a widespread day of service for college students at over 100 campuses to show their help their communities.

This will be the fourth consecutive year MWSU has observed the event.
