ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — The Joseph Company continued its 3D Journey series on Tuesday morning with Session 8: Amplifying Echoes.

The goal of the program is to help people in the community become transformational coaches within their industry or area of expertise. The meetings allow for people to share their thoughts and perspectives on how they can grow and further develop.

Todays meeting featured two guest speakers in UCLA icons Valorie Kondos Field and her husband Bobby Field.

Valorie won seven NCAA Championships during her time as the UCLA gymnastics coach. Her coaching philosophy is rooted in helping athletes succeed both in their sport and in life through joy, trust, and fulfillment.

Bobby made his impact both in coaching and administration. As the defensive coordinator of UCLA he helped lead the team seven conference championships and five Rose Bowl appearances.

In 2001 he transitioned to administration and oversaw football, rowing, track and field and golf.

In talking to members of the community, Valorie discussed her journey into coaching and how her view on winning changed over time.

"You develop grit, resilience, determination, how to be a part of a team, courage, how to fall and pick yourself right back up without having a pity party," Valorie said. "You learn all of those skills in sports and that grit is the true essence of what sport is. And when you can instill that into young people, when you're coaching, then the winning follows."

Bobby echoed similar sentiments while also detailing the role that mentors in his life played in his coaching style.

"Having that commitment to get up and show up to be at your best every day is not easy," Bobby said. "But it's necessary to perform at your best. You can't do that on a sporadic, with peoples scheduling. We've got to do it daily."

The Joseph Company's next meeting will be on May 13 with Session 9: ALL IN on Your Foundational Purpose.
