A Buchanan County jury returned a guilty verdict for a St. Joseph man on Friday for second-degree trafficking of methamphetamine.

In the case State of Missouri v. Paul David Chaney, the Buchanan County jury was selected on Thursday, Feb. 27, and on Friday, Feb. 28, the jury found Chaney guilty of possessing over 450 grams of methamphetamine.

The Buchanan County Drug Strike Force partnered with the St. Joseph Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit to serve a search warrant at Chaney’s home, located at 2216 N. 3 St., on March 1, 2023.

While serving the search warrant, a man came to Chaney’s house and attempted to buy methamphetamine.

During the search, authorities found 641 grams of methamphetamine packaged in varying weights for sale.

Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney Pamela Blevins said, “The greatest service of citizenship is jury duty. We thank the jurors for their time and effort during their jury service.”

A sentencing has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on April 4 at the Buchanan County Circuit Court Division 4 with Honorable Judge Daniel Kellogg presiding.
