Law enforcement investigates double homicide, child abduction in Riverside, Missouri

The Platte County, Missouri, Sheriff's Office, alongside the Riverside, Missouri, Police Department, are investigating a double homicide and child abduction from late Thursday evening. 

According to a media release sent to News-Press NOW from the Platte County Sheriff's Office's Captain Jeffrey Shanks at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28:

The first murder was around 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, in Riverside, Missouri, near the intersection of Vivion Road and Northwest High Drive in the parking lot of a car wash. The suspect shot the victim, an adult female, then took her vehicle from the scene. Authorities pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The suspect drove the stolen vehicle immediately to the 4400 block of Northwest 50 St., in unincorporated Platte County. The suspect made his way into a residence, shooting and severely injuring an adult female. The suspect then shot and killed a juvenile male and abducted a five-year-old female from the residence and fled. The woman was transported to an area hospital for treatment, and authorities pronounced the juvenile male dead at the scene.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the five-year-old girl, and around 5:10 am on Friday, Feb. 28,  the girl was located, safe and unharmed, at a relative’s residence. Authorities then canceled the Amber Alert.

The suspect allegedly committed several crimes in the Kansas City, Kansas area immediately following the two murders and the kidnapping, before returning to Platte County in another stolen vehicle, not the same as the first victim's.

Around 7:30 a.m. on Friday morning, the suspect was found by authorities, he had been traveling on foot near Vivion Road and the intersection of Waukomis Drive.

The suspect, identified as George C. Manning, a 43-year-old African-American man, was shot and killed during an officer-involved shooting. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the officer-involved shooting, and the Patrol will release information about the case at a later date.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department is investigating Manning's alleged crimes in the area and will release information at a later time.

The Platte County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the two murders in Riverside and the kidnapping.
