Community Action Partnership of Greater St. Joseph announced on Wednesday morning that since Oct. 1, they have helped more than 2,000 local families with energy assistance this winter.

CAP helps area residents in many different ways from their Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, their Housing Development program, Water Assistance program, their Head Start program, Family Services programs and Community Engagement.

CAP shared on Wednesday, Dec. 18, that they have been able to help 2,133 households in the St. Joseph Community who were in a crisis energy assistance situation pay more than $119,800.

When it comes to the peak of summer or winter, CAP makes sure that customers who are struggling to pay their energy bill and meet a certain criteria are able to benefit from their Energy Crisis Intervention Program.

Eligible customers include Missouri and United States residents who are responsible for paying utilities (including renters), who have less than $3,000 across all of their financial accounts and either meet or are below the income guidelines for a household of their size.

“We’re so proud of the work they do every day to ensure families are staying warm this winter,” CAP wrote on a social media post Wednesday morning.

CAP will be closed beginning on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024 until Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.
