With a delay leading to a donation shortfall, officials with the Adopt-A-Family program are asking the community for help.

Due to an issue with a local printer, the holiday edition of AFL-CIO Community Services’ newsletter did not hit mailboxes until this weekend, which is three weeks behind schedule. The newsletters are one of the main means of funding for the Adopt-A-Family program, and the delay has caused Christmas donations to drop sharply.

While many of those applying for help are adopted, the agency provides Christmas gifts, dinner and other essentials to 200 to 300 families seeking assistance each year. Donations for that effort are needed, and individuals, businesses and organizations are being asked to give whatever they can to help.

Donations can be made by calling 816-364-1131, stopping by the agency at 1203 N. Sixth St. or going online to www.helpmenow.org.
