InterServ hands out turkeys at annual Thanksgiving giveaway

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and some community organizations are working to make sure everyone has a turkey on the table.
On Wednesday, InterServ handed out turkeys and sides to families in need for the holiday.
“We gave 100 vouchers, so we have 100 turkeys and 100 bags of sides that include, like, mashed potatoes, things to make, green bean casserole, stuffing and a can of pumpkin so they can make a pie,” said Jan Stone, the IFS and housing case manager for InterServ.
Stone said it’s extra important for families to receive some assistance with meals around the holidays.
“There’s a lot of people who come to our food pantry every month,” she said. “But around the holidays, sometimes they might have extra people in their home, and it just feels really good to be able to provide this service to the community.”
Due to high demand, InterServ was only able to give turkeys to clients they have serviced since October. But Stone said anyone can reach out and learn more about the program for next year.
“Make sure if you want your voucher, to check in with us and see when we’re giving them out,” said Stone.
This year, InterServ was able to give out their 100 turkeys and sides with the help of an anonymous donor.
