The St. Joseph YWCA is highlighting Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a series of events in the coming week.

Local restaurants will participate in the Empty Seat at the Table event on Saturday, Oct. 19, by reserving a space as a symbol of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, the YWCA will have two events at Coleman Hawkins Park to raise awareness of domestic violence. A resource fair involving several community organizations begins at 5 p.m. with a Remembrance Walk starting at 6:30 p.m.

And the agency will have two more “In Her Shoes” simulations for members of the community to interact with from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 24. Those interested in attending should call 816-232-4481 ext. 332 or email at cmerritt@ywcasj.org.
