Noyes Home celebrates 130 years with block party

By Kendra Simpson
Sunday afternoon, the Noyes Home for Children celebrated 130 years of caring and providing for the community with a block party and celebrity kickball game.
The event featured all the makings of a successful block party including music, balloon art and a friendly game of kickball. All proceeds raised at the celebration, whether it be through t-shirt sales or donations for artwork the children made, will benefit the Noyes Home’s mission of providing a safe space for children.
“We’ve been helping children and families in need since 1894,” Noyes Home Executive Director Chelsea Howlett said. “Whether it’s due to homelessness or families that are going through crisis … we are able to provide a safe haven for children in need.”
News-Press NOW was lucky enough to get involved with the block party. Charles Christian kicked the festivities off with a prayer and by singing “happy birthday” for the home, and Kendra Simpson was one of the players in the celebrity kickball game against the Noyes Home children. While she and her team tried with all their might, the children did take the victory at the end of the game.
Several other groups, such as the YWCA and Sisters of Solace, also got the chance to support the Noyes Home and help share their missions.
“We’re just so grateful for so many various businesses and individuals who helped make this possible,” Howlett said. “As you look around, you’re going to see a whole lot of people that we’re thanking because everything was underwritten by our community.”
The work doesn’t end there, though. The Noyes Home is always in need of support and donations from the community. To learn about opportunities to support the Noyes Home and the children who reside there, visit the group’s website at https://noyeshome.org/.
