River Bluff Brewing held a tailgate party Sunday afternoon, but this tailgate had a few more tails than the average pre-game party.

River Bluff Brewing partnered with Purina to to host an adoption event and raise money for Friends of the Animal Shelter.

The party had all the essentials for a good tailgate: raffles for Chiefs’ tickets, hotdogs and even some adoptable dogs.

Purina’s “Raise a Pint for Pets” campaign raised nearly $10,000 for the shelter since the Chiefs’ season kickoff game.

“We are raising money for our friends in the animal shelter to help out the animal shelter, just to help them continue what they’re doing and save more pets and get them into good homes,” Purina’s Factory Controller Lisa Weil said.

Attendees could purchase t-shirts, pint glasses and raffle tickets for prize baskets to help raise funds for the shelter. Through these purchases and the donations from River Bluff Brewing, Purina and Goldie Lynn Imagery, the campaign proved to be a successful one.

“We also recently partnered with a local photographer, Goldie Lynn Imagery, and did Pics for Paws and she donated 100% of the proceeds and bought food to our store so we were able to get a truckload of food and litter directly for (the shelter),” Weil said. “(River Bluff) is matching 50% of everything that we’ve raised, so when you combine all the efforts together, we don’t know what we’re going to make today, we hope a lot, but right now we’re approaching $10,000.”

Every dog at the adoption event on Sunday was absolutely free since Purina covered adoption fees as well as spaying and neutering costs. They even threw in a care package filled with food, treats, toys and more puppy essentials.

The adoption event helped the shelter immensely. However, because new animals are brought into the shelter nearly every day, the work doesn’t stop here. To further help Friends of the Animal Shelter, visit their website at https://petforu.com/ to donate or volunteer.
