The Salvation Army is looking for donations at its Messanie location, accepting all clothing items for those in need.

As the seasons change, taking a look in your closet for apparel and personal items that you no longer use can be resourceful at the Salvation Army. Major Ronald Key said the least given clothing items are shoes, followed by socks and under garments.

“We don’t charge, so they just come in and get a voucher from us and we send them over to get help finding clothes, underwear, socks and shoes. Right now we’ll probably go pretty soon with light hoodie jackets for the fall,” said Key.

One might overlook the need for donating linen and bedding that are also crucial items for the Salvation Army. Key said these items do not have to be brand new, but should be gently used. For those that currently live in the Salvation Army shelters, these items can be taken with them when they move into permanent housing.

“It could be blankets, pillows, pillowcases, sheets, those kind of things that we can use in our shelter for people who are moving in our shelter and when they move out of our shelter, if they find a place to live, they get to take that with them,” said Key.

The donation facility located at 602 Messanie St. is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information regarding the Salvation Army, you can visit its website.
