United Way kicks off annual fundraiser campaign Sept. 5

By Kendra Simpson
United Way will be kicking of its “Better Days Made by You” campaign Sept. 5 at Missouri Western State University.
The nonprofit has held these annual efforts since 1916 as a way to support local programs and agencies that continually help the St. Joseph community. This year’s theme, “Better Days Made by You,” invites everyone to help make better days for those in need.
The campaign will highlight two individuals who received help from United Way this year: Sincere, a former Coast Guard First Responder who was medically discharged, and Keith, a child born prematurely at 17 weeks.
United Way hopes to surpass last year’s raised funds of $2.5 million, however, they do not want to create an exact goal considering the financial struggles of the community since the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020.
The campaign kickoff will begin 7:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at Missouri Western’s Spratt Hall Atrium and Recital Hall. To reserve a spot at the kickoff, call the United Way at (816)364-2381 or by visiting the event’s web page at stjosephunitedway.org.
