A friendly competition involving St. Joseph businesses aims to result in a win for those who are food insecure in the community.

The Second Harvest Community Food Bank is hosting its annual corporate food drive, Food Fight 2024. In honor of September being Hunger Action Month, Second Harvest is inviting businesses in St. Joseph and across the region to collect food donations to help those in need.

Throughout September, businesses of similar sizes will be facing off to see who can do the most good for our community.

“It’s really to bring awareness of hunger within our communities, and by doing the Food Fight we’re able to band together all of the businesses and organizations in St. Joe and kind of rally together to see what we can do to make a difference,” Second Harvest Communications Coordinator Mackenzie Osborn said.

On average, the corporate Food Fight brings in roughly 2,500 meals to the community, but Second Harvest is expecting even more this year with the influx of participants.

“We have another three weeks to go until it kicks off and we are already over the amount of participants that we had last year, which is super exciting,” Osborn said.

The competition will be split into four groups based on the size of each organization. At the end of the month, Second Harvest will tally food and monetary donations to find the top donators in each group. The four champions will receive the Golden Can award.
