St. Joseph students are heading back to school this week and one local beauty salon wants to ensure the kids look good doing so.

KD’s Beauty Bar spent the last week gathering shoes, t-shirts, jeans and more in hopes of helping out their community. The giveaway included hotdogs, drinks and cupcakes for the kids to enjoy while their parents shopped.

“Just seeing the impact it made, you know, it takes a village,” KD’s co-owner Dai’Janise Wilbon said. “So if there’s a way that KD’s can be a part of that village, we’re just ready and willing to do so. It’s hard, you know, you may not always have that helping hand or support to be able to, you know, meet your child’s needs and that’s where we step in and be a part of that village.”

The co-owners of the beauty bar, Wilbon and Kanei Jackson, believe events like the clothes drive bring people together. In the past, the pair had helped with similar giveaways while teaming up with Kingdom Fit and saw the significant impact the gesture can make.

“I think it just brings everyone together and sometimes you need that,” Wilbon said. “You have people who, let’s be honest here, things are not priced as they were before to where you could maybe take care of your whole household. So just knowing that…the community has your back and you have that additional support kind of takes the edge off.”
