Pivotal Point welcomes new executive director

Pivotal Point, a transitional housing facility in St. Joseph, announced Rick Lipira as its new executive director on Wednesday morning.
The facility is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering homeless individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency.
Pivotal Point uses a “good Samaritan model” when it comes to helping those in need.
“We put people up, we pay for them to get well, to get back on their feet,” Lipira said. “Not only that, but instead of turning them loose, we’re giving them life skills.”
Lipira will be taking over for Melissa Frakes, who will be retiring from the position and transitioning into social work with Pivotal Point.
Lipira’s appointment will become effective on Aug. 1, but until then, he said he’s looking forward to working alongside Frakes to fulfill his new role.
“What Rick brings is some fresh ideas, fresh energy,” said Tom Richmond, the board chair at Pivotal Point. “He’s got a very extensive background in construction management, leading a company, owned and led a company. He’s got a degree in accounting and he’s been a pastor.”
Lipira will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Pivotal Point’s operations, including strategic vision and goals, fundraising, program development and staff leadership. Rick is committed to building upon the organization’s strong foundation and expanding its impact in St. Joseph.
“I’m feeling excited,” Lipira said, “… because I feel like with the construction background and all that they have going on with the addition to the thrift store … I feel like I have the capabilities to fulfill a number of these areas.”
