River Bluff Brewing partnered with St. Joseph’s Friends of the Animal Shelter to host its 2nd annual Puppy Bowl ahead of the Super Bowl game.

The Animal Shelter is continuously looking to find forever homes for animals and hosting a puppy bowl on game day is one way to get community members in the spirit of adopting a furry friend.

“This is the perfect way for us to raise a little bit of money while also having a good time,” said Taylor Stephenson, co-chair of the Animal Shelter fundraising committee. “We bring out as many adoptable pups as we can, cook up some hot dogs and have some drinks while cheering on our Chiefs and people absolutely adore the animals so we’re hoping to do even better than we did last year. We had one adopted at our first puppy bowl which is always good but today we would like to see a few get adopted.”

All donations made at the puppy bowl will go towards future events hosted by the shelter in hopes of reducing the overcapacity of animals they’re currently facing.

“We’ve had so many animals coming into the shelter lately so we need people to adopt,” Stephenson said. “We had the $15 adoptions that ran through the week and, of course, it costs us to do that so we’re just trying to raise some money so that we can continue doing that for all of our animals in the future.”

Friends of the Animal Shelter has different breeds being dropped off weekly and encourages people to come out to the shelter and adopt a suitable pet for an affordable price.

“Come and see us at the shelter, meet the animals and get to know their personalities so you can decide which one is for you,” Stephenson said. “There were quite a few to choose from and the ones that are here today are the lucky ones that got chosen so we hope this event will bring more people to the Shelter on Monday.”
