Red Flag Warning issued for Thursday

Dry and windy conditions are forecast to produce elevated fire weather concerns across the Mid-Missouri River Valley on Thursday.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for all of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas including Buchanan County, effective from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Persistent southerly winds of 20 to 25 miles per hour with gusts to 35 miles per hour combined with low relative humidity of 20 to 30% will result in critical fire weather conditions. Drought across the region and dead tinder from recent frost will provide additional fuel for rapidly spreading fires.

Outdoor burning of any kind is not advised through the warning period Thursday.
