One in custody in Walmart shooting as police respond to standoff, second shooting

A person of interest in a weekend shooting is in custody following an afternoon of heavy police activity north of Downtown St. Joseph.
The person arrested is connected to a Feb. 9 shooting at the North Belt Walmart, Sgt. Richard McGregory of the St. Joseph Police Department said.
The arrest comes as two police incidents happened within blocks of each other Wednesday afternoon just north of Downtown.
In the first incident, one person was taken to the hospital following a shooting in the 800 block of North 13th Street at about noon. McGregory told News-Press NOW following that incident that no one was in custody.
“I don’t have any information as far as how many people are involved because that’s currently an ongoing investigation,” he said. “But what I do know is one male was shot, and he is currently undergoing treatment at Mosaic Life Care.”
A couple of hours later just blocks away, police special response teams were involved in a standoff in the 800 block of North 10th Street.
There was a heavy police presence outside the home, and officers were speaking to someone inside over a megaphone and ordering that person to come out. Officers then were seen going into the house.
It is unclear whether the Wednesday incidents are connected.
