Local residents who use or sign up for a library card this September in St. Joseph potentially will receive a little extra along with access to a world of literature and resources.

The St. Joseph Public Library is celebrating National Library Card Sign-up Month in September by offering prizes to anyone who uses their library card or signs up for one. Residents are eligible to enter into drawings to win prizes at any one of the four branches of the St. Joseph Public Library.

Along with the Downtown and East Hills libraries, locations include the Carnegie Library at 316 Massachusetts St. and the Washington Park Library at 1821 North Third St.

The library will award a “Frog and Toad” plush animal and book set for those from birth to age 6. Participants 7 and older are eligible to receive a $25 Visa gift card. As part of the monthly event, the library also will be waiving the standard $1 card replacement fee.

Library officials note that the facilities offer more than just books but a diverse set of programs, genealogy, local history resources, databases and book clubs.

A full rundown of events, library announcements and updates can be found at sjpl.lib.mo.us/ and on the library’s Facebook pages.
