A St. Joseph Police Department captain is headed south to lead another law enforcement agency.

Capt. Jeff Wilson will take over as chief of police in Platte City in April following the retirement of current Chief Joe Wellington.

Wilson, a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, was chosen from a pool of 40 applicants. He has 31 years of law enforcement experience and currently serves as a spokesman for the St. Joseph Police Department.
