St. Joseph residents have one last chance to experience the spirit of the holidays through one of the city’s longest-running traditions.

The Holiday Park light display at Krug Park will be open for its final days from 6 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The South Pole at Hyde Park will also be open both evenings.

Holiday Park started in 1981 after members of the East Hills Optimists Club came up with the idea to decorate Krug Park for the holidays. The South Pole was founded several years later when the Southside Progressive organization approached the parks department about decorating Hyde Park for the holidays.

Parks crews set up the lights each year from mid-October until the week of Thanksgiving.

There is no charge to see the lights, but donations are accepted at the end of the display.
